Head-to-Head Hits & New Rule Discussion

So you don't ask a question then excuse me of avoiding the question....Speaks volumes toward your intelligence level.....

It's simple. You know the calls overwhelmingly favored the Colts that game. You know the Steelers got screwed on the worst replay reversal to ever be made in the NFL. You just don't want to admit it.

The Brown's Ryan Tucker never failed a drug test for roids and he WAS immediately cut after he failed it and not kept around on the team for another year.

F Ryan Tucker. i'm glad he got caught and cut. never liked him from day one.

These head contact hits are the talk of the town throughout the entire Nation, and on every network. It's the main topic of discussion throughout the entire Nation. However Pittsburgh missed the memo while out throwing a ticker-tape parade for Big Ben's return. Three virgin coal miners daughters were offerred up to Big Ben, and BunsofSteel made Ben a nice head-dress out of lilacs.

Exactly I didnt see ONE Steeler Fan Knock TJ WARD. In Fact several of us said we Like the Kid and would love to have him in the Burgh. These Pussies make up so much BS ... BITTER BITTER BITTER... its so much like a Woman at "That time of the Month"... Go get some testosterone injected and become MEN Again.

What is sad is how closely you follow our "lowly" Browns.

Well, you guys may as well cut TJ Ward now. With the rules changes they are proposing an enforcer type in the secondary will be rendered useless. All the bitching and moaning the xxxxs in this country, especially within the Browns fanbase, looks to be causing the league to crack down on "devestating hits". That means even if a hit is 100% by the rules legal, the player can be suspended if he hits too hard.

This is the fukkkking destruction of the NFL as we know it, and you clowns are sitting around applauding it. We should all have fun talking smack on which one of us has the better flag football team for the next decade. This shit is knee-jerk reaction at it's very worst.

Destruction of the NFL, and we are all witness!

Harrison's hit on Cribbs, legit.

Hit on massafockwhatever, maybe.

I checked the replay a bunch of times, I'm not sure it's an illegal hit.

However, in Goodell's pussification of the NFL, the fact that Harrison took out two stains players coupled with other helmet-to-helmet hits on Sunday, I'm guessing Goodell dishes out some fines. Makes him look stately.

Same for the suspension on Ben. 4 (6) games for being accused. Goodell pandered to minority pressure to suspend a successful white guy and Ben was the easiest target.

All the wrong moves for the wrong reasons.

But if you want the NFL marketed, merchandised, played overseas and made appealing to non-football fans who only watch the Superbowl for the commercials, then Goodell is your guy.

He's singlehandedly dismantling the best game on earth. The issue is bigger than a couple of arguable fines.

Hey Chuck, if you want to hate on someone, hate on the NFL. BAAwhahah!

We tried to educate you guys that this was coming yesterday. Don't shoot the messenger when it was your dumb ass player that had to cross the line with that display in the Super Bowl followed by knocking two guys out in one quarter then topping all that off by running to the media and boasting dumb ass poster-child quotes to stir the pot.

Harrison is a tool, Big Ben is a tool, and you are blind.

The NFL will announce by Wednesday that, effective this weekend, even first-time offenders face suspension for "devastating hits" and "head shots," according to Ray Anderson, the league's executive vice president of football operations.

"We can't and won't tolerate what we saw Sunday," Anderson said Monday. "We've got to get the message to players that these devastating hits and head shots will be met with a very necessary higher standard of accountability. We have to dispel the notion that you get one free pass in these egregious or flagrant shots."

Anderson was alluding to the normal disciplinary measures in which the league has issued fines for first-time offenders and, very often, second-time offenders.

"What we saw Sunday was disturbing," Anderson said. "We're talking about avoiding life-altering impacts."

Sunday's games produced a number of violent hits.

The Eagles' DeSean Jackson and the Falcons' Dunta Robinson were knocked out of their game after a frightening collision in which Robinson launched himself head first into Jackson. Both sustained concussions, and Jackson is not expected to play in Week 7.

Ravens tight end Todd Heap took a vicious hit from Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather that Heap called "one of those hits that shouldn't happen." The team was in contact with the league about the tackle.

Steelers linebacker James Harrison sidelined two Browns players with head injuries after jarring hits. An NFL spokesman said one of the tackles, on Josh Cribbs, was legal. The Browns were more upset about Harrison's hit on Mohamed Massaquoi, which the league is reviewing.

And Jets safety Jim Leonhard was flagged 15 yards for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Brandon Lloyd in a 24-20 win over the Broncos.

Anderson would not speculate earlier Monday on how many players would be punished for hits from the past Sunday's games. Players also can be ejected from games for illegal hits, but that's rare.

Anyone watch the MNF post-game show?

Anyone watch MNF here?

Anyway, Steve Young is right. Start taking away big hits and football isn't football anymore. Call it (quoting Young) "rugby with helmets".

This is Goodell's NFL. Football is dead.

Lets put you in pads and see how your viewpoint changes.

love it!!! Goodell is looking into scumbag flagrant hits by players that happened on sunday, one of whom happen to be a steeler. now every steeler fan on here calls the 'investigation' and it's outcome as the pussification of the nfl. get real.

Unbelievable how much of a bunch of pussies there are as fans of the NFL anymore. This game was designed to be violent. It's supposed to be that way. The more they change rules to make the game safer the more the game suffers. Yes, players get hurt, sometimes seriously. It's why they get paid millions of dollars. It's part of the game and always should be. This game was never meant to be safe.

so you stood up and cheered when darryl stingley was carted off the field? instead of human beings lifting themselves and launching themselves at opponents, why don't we fill up a big bag of shit and shoot it out of a cannon at the guys coming across the middle? nobody's calling for the end of aggressive play..........violent thug play yes. too bad your team is on the giving end of the argument because of harrison. and because he is your boy everyone in steeler land just argues against anything involving their team.

I agree with Steve, and this league and Goondale are trying to water down the product that has made them money. With that said, the Steelers defense is against the law, IMO. Miami better not run that "Mildcat" offense or even come across the middle next Sunday. If they do, all bets are off. Any offensive coach that tries to advance the ball against our defense is just as guilty of injuring a player as James is.....maybe even more.

No, we cheer when your player gets laid out but is still able to walk off the field.

We pray and hope for the best if they can't.

If yinz had any players who could lay a hit every now and then, you'd understand.

Keep the faith.

Cheered? No. But I don't want the game changed to make is safer if a player gets hit. The game is supposed to be violent. Injuries are a part of this game and always have been. Maybe the other version of football is more your "cup of tea." This is not about violent thug play, it's called football and you are supposed to try and hit the other player and hurt them. Do you actually think that when they hit someone it's not supposed to hurt them? I've never been against aggressive play even if it is against our own players. It's what the game is supposed to be like.

Yeah, how many Steelers had live altering experiences after all their head injuries? Merril Hoge still comes out swinging when the pizza delivery boy rigs the doorbell. MIke Webster met a tragic end supposedly because of head injury induced depression.

Harrison purposely lead with his head, and he didn't have to. That is what makes this guy even more despicable.

Steroids, lighter equipment, better training, more competition and better fields all contribute to faster, more violent impacts. WHile guys have much more lean muscle today, their spines are no different than the guys playing in the 60's. There's your problem.

It's fun to be Jack Lambert and put dresses on the sissies who don't want to get hit, isn't it? Especially when it's your rivals getting hurt. Well, sooner or later Steeler Vermin, it's going to happen to one of your own, hell, with HArrison leading with his head so much, he's a prime suspect for taking one not quite right.

Or wait, maybe he has a special kind of spinal chord that doens't crack, eh? Wow, he's superman.............

As far as Steve Young goes, he is a prime example of why the Commissioner needs to change things. Football players know nothing else but playing ball, They will play well beyond teh voice of reason when further hits could ruin their lives. Young was getting a concussion every time someone yelled "COLD BEER HERE" and still, he insisted that he was fine.

My problem with this Commissioner is that he is only half committed. Letting Vick back in was sickening. Reducing PeePeeburgers suspension because he promised to be good was also BS. THe NFL has done a lot of things that piss fans off, like curtailing celebrations and not showing bad behavior................... BUT........... the NFL continues to grow. So don't worry about nobody showing up.

Steeler fans? Yeah, you guys are Johnny come lately and don't even know your own history, let alone appreciating the fraternity of the NFL. Left up to you the NFL would be an unrooly, violent shithole. That is of course, until it was YOUR guys who started getting hurt, THEN, you scum would be the first ones to cry foul.

Thank you for teh reply, but you failed to understand teh point.

Football is a dangerous sport. So is driving teh car or taking a walk in teh park.

Football players know that teh game is violent and dangerous and they know teh risks taken.

That is teh real issue.

I agree on Cribbs. I don't think Harrison did anything wrong on that play. He was just trying to make a play.

I think the MoMss hit will get him fined. I don't think he was trying to be dirty on that play, but, the NFL has it's rules and that one was close enough that when you add in what happened to Cribbs the NFL is probably going to seek a contribution to their general fund.

Wow. Someone actually being honest and understands the game is quick and violent. The way it is supposed to be.

aggressiveness is the nfl. playing hard is the nfl. violence is smacking your girl around and getting arrested for assault.

I said violent, not violence. It is supposed to be a violent sport. You take away the hard hits, you take away the game. The more they make rules that stop violent hits the more the game suffers. If you want a safe game play bocce.
