THE BROWNS BOARD

Tell me again why Browns Stadium shouldn't have roof

LOL....Then sitting outside in shitty weather is for dummies.  :)

Well I guess every fan that has ever attended a cold weather football game in Cleveland is a dummy. And the Tribe too, for that matter. We could always bastardize the game by adding a roof and artificial turf, and still get the same attendance numbers.

Football revenue comes from TV. You can set the thermostat in your cozy living room to whatever you want.  If you want to watch live, then deal with the climate of the city you live in, because football is an outdoor sport played in Fall & Winter, always has been.

If half the stadium had a roof and half had none...then the fans that chose to sit in the non roofed side, in pouring rain, would be considered dummies (given ample seating on either side and general admission).   I'd have to assume that the majority of people would choose to sit under the roof.    And which side do you think the team would choose to have as their home sideline?

Yep. You?

And do they even let you out of the home to buy things? Your "rec" area is technically always domed, right? You can't do water aerobics exposed to the elements. Seems hypocritical to fight against a dome.

I assume you're against every other technological innovation that's been incorporated into the game too, right?

Changing from thin leather helmets bastardized the game

Multiple and better cameras bastardized the game

Replays bastardized the game

Improves training and recovery methods bastardized the game

The forward pass bastardized the game...

People watch football on TV, so it doesn't matter how many fans actually come to the games, how many non football events use the stadium, or how much revenue is generated from these events...

None of those things bastardized the game, they improved it. Artificial turf does not improve it.

Domes turn you into a team that is disadvantaged in January on the road. That's not ideal.

Do you see Buffalo getting a dome? No, their fans fucking love the elements, they embrace it.

Do you think they'll put a roof on Lambeau? Dome in Pittsburgh.  No ... because they are tough cities and their stadiums, and their fans embody the city.

The Lions have a nice cozy dome for for all the suburbanites from Farmington Hills with sweaters tied around their necks to get a pita wrap and an Italian Ice and sit around giving golf claps ... because they're pussies.

The City of Cleveland can't control how the Browns play, but they can't at least provide an environment that fosters a tough, loyal, engaged fan base with its rustbelt NE Ohio roots of being the birthplace of professional football.

We're not a dome town. We're a steel town, a tough town, a winds blowing off the lake town ... please don't take that image away with a pussy-ass dome.

You seem to be projecting pretty hard here. Someone in the 60s called you a girl and you've really taken it to heart, huh?

And you can find articles talking about those stadiums adding domes and why it makes sense...

Call me crazy but I'd rather have a massive city investment that provides us more payback and usage than not adding a dome so you can continue to compensate for something.

First I think there must be some need for a new stadium.

Second would a retractable or dome make sense for the region's needs.

Third are the funding requirements available and go from there.

~  AND  ~   Remember not everybody is not going to be happy with whatever you do,  too bad. do your studies and make the decision and go for it.

Then let the bitching begin.

Payback, investment, usage ... Dude, I've been a Florida resident for 30 years. I'm not here to give you advice on how to run your city. Just get your gay-ass dome notions out of the way, because that's not what the Cleveland Browns are about. The Browns are bigger than your multi-use ideas. They are a Keystone NFL Franchise in the cradle of professional football.  The Browns decide what's best for them and then the city adjusts accordingly

We lost them once, let's hope everyone learned a lesson: Browns come first. We fought hard to get them back way before you even kissed your first boy.

Well, I sell a lot of Real Estate. So I can afford to fly up anytime and watch the Browns and blow bucks on hotels and restaurants with my traveling friends.

I can tell you that ends if you build a faggety dome. Takes away from the Cleveland experience for me. And I'm sure that goes for a lot of traveling Dawgs. But you'll get more housewives from Medina and a "family friendly" experience.

Anything else you'd like to ruin? Baseball? Yoga pants? Dave and Busters?

My original thinking for the thread was, Money was no object....but of course, $$ would be a big reason to Tell Me Again Why We Can't....

Well, an awful lot of those Winds Off The Lake people stayed home for that game against the Saints.  And that was a must win for us to keep our playoff hopes alive.  Now, perhaps there would've been more fans there if it were the Steelers, but the majority of those would've been Steeler fans.  And that's more embarrassing than empty seats.

And not just for the economic value of a roof (retractable is fine) for hosting other things for the community (and profit) and/or a super bowl, or combine.  And not even for the comfort of the fans and attracting more of them to late season games...but also for the comfort of the players.  It's not the 1960's anymore.  Players can move around the league now-a-days.  They're not stuck in Minnesota with that Whako Bud Grant not allowing his players to have sideline heaters.  You're competing not just on the field, you're also competing for talent.   Look how much $$ it took to lure Watson.  New Orleans wouldn't have needed to pay near that much for him.  (turned out they didn't need him to beat us...they had what's-his-face playing wild cat) - that game was a gut punch and a slap in the face at the same time.  It's what caused me to start this thread.  That crap-ass offense beat us and eliminated us...while we had beautiful td passes sliding through the frozen fingers of our receivers.  Geezuz Joseph and Mary that game pissed me off.

Well our run defense sucked ass and couldn't adjust to Taysom Hill running on us even though everyone frozen in the stands and warm at home knew he was running it when he was in there.

I think firing the defensive coordinator was a much more logical reaction than building a dome.

:)  Yup.  One step at a time.  Part of me wonders what Woods was thinking as he was heading into the season with that DT tandem he had.  "If I lose my MLB I'm fucked".   But, it was more than that anyway.  The players were too confused too many times.  Too many breakdowns.

Ya know?  Too many times....players looking at one another as if, "Who had him?"  Too much thinking about changing assignments and options that inevitably someone is on the wrong page.

That percentage of Dome teams on the road in the playoffs... .244 ... is an actual stat, I didn't just make that up.

Overall, road teams are .413 ... big statistical difference.

Z

Maybe so.  I think it plays out more over the course of the season rather than individual games.  Aslo, good teams are  just good teams.  The stadium probably doesn't make all that much of a difference.

I just feel that domes create a much louder environment.  I just know that i can make more noise when the weather is nice rather than when all bundled up, wearing thick gloves and a scarf over my mouth.  That just makes common sense.  Right?

Personally, I love bad weather football. Give me snow, mud, rain and wind. Love it. I also realize that fiscally, there is nothing more idiotic than building an open-air football stadium in the North that sits empty 95% of the time. You also should be able to appreciate the humor that is some guy in Florida employed in a Nerf soft profession littered with homosexual men (not that there is anything wrong with that) yelling and screaming about how "homosexual" the idea of the Browns not playing in bad weather is because Cleveland is a blue-collar steel town. 😉 But.... you are not wrong when you bring up the fact that dome stadium teams and their relative lack of success in winning Super Bowls. You have a valid point there.

Anything else you'd like to ruin? Baseball? Yoga pants? Dave and Busters?

I'd love to ruin superhero/comic book movies, so they'd stop making them.

We agree on comic book movies.

Homosexuals in Real Estate must be an Ohio thing.

I saw it as an opportunity to make a good living. I coulda been a ditchdigger,  then I would have a lot of street cred on the Browns Board, however I wouldn't be able to afford that awesome outdoor stadium you have up there.  Conundrum.

I did a check once of Cleveland BROWNS home/away games with the weather conditions,  available for all NFLteams.   I was little surprised at the results,  decade after decade there were very few really bad HOME games, maybe 0, 1 or 2 a season.

I look at a dome   -AND/OR-   retractable open air stadium not just for 8 home games a year but it's use 52 weeks a year by the community or region.   You CAN NOT print tickets for something that might end up being a rain/snow event.

If it's nice out retract the roof !  Whether it's a 65° football game or 75-80° concert in June or 30° event in March.   The versatility would be    awesome   and uses unlimited.

Forget the occasional snow games in December I'm thinking 12 months here.  ......  I think that is being completely overlooked here !    Think B-I-G people.    Cleveland  a destination city no matter when !

Lol, yes indeed. We are entering that weird time of year for sports on tv.

I like, but don't love basketball so I don't watch it unless the Cavs, Buckeyes, or even Cleveland State are doing well.

I do vegetate on the Golf Channel, but it's not ultra important until the Masters in April.

I'm lost after the playoffs end. I love the Cavs,  but I don't get their games unless I buy the NBA package, same with the Tribe and MLB. March Madness is fun, and hopefully the Cavs will go on a playoff run, and I'll watch any baseball game on a lazy Summer Night ... but nothing gets my blood pumping like a real, actual Cleveland Browns regular season football game.

I'll be ready to be tortured again in September 2023 ... until then, I guess I'll just have to enjoy myself.

Lol I get it completely.

The torture could actually begin with the draft, followed by incredible optimism, & the inevitable "2nd string QB is better than DW (or insert any other QB since 1999)" talk.

Lather, rinse, repeat. Cleveland Browns football, WOOF.😀
