THE BROWNS BOARD

Camp Trubisky

Did PFF factor in that he said he wanted to play for the Browns?

I honestly don't give a flying fuck that he says he wants to play for the Browns....or that he is from this area. Those are just bonuses. I do give a flying fuck that the Browns need a franchise QB.....that they have the overall #1 pick that can get them that player....and that MT is the player that is almost universally said to be the best available that fits the bill.

He fits the bill better than at least half the #1 overall QBs picked in the last 20 years.

Here are the #1 overall pick QBs in the draft the last 20 years. AS A PROSPECT, how does MT match up against these guys:

1998 Peyton

1999 Couch

2001 Vick

2002 David Carr

2003 Palmer

2004 Eli

2005 Alex Smith

2007 Russell

2009 Stafford

2010 Bradford

2011 Newton

2012 Luck

2015 Winston

2016 Goff

I say he ranks about in the middle of this group.

Should trade down take him with a low first round pick and then get the Notre Dame center with the first pick in the second round.

WSS

No matter what happens, Trubisky will be gone in the first 3 picks of the draft. If not by the Browns then someone else.

So any talk of taking him lower in the first round is foolishness at this point, unless it is like found out that he has Leukemia or something. (remember Ernie Davis)

While I haven't watched much of the upcoming QB class, it should be interesting to see how it all shakes out

Ya want to see Mitch? DVR December 30, 2PM CBS. North Carolina - Stanford.

The playoffs should be on your list too. Washington's Qb is getting some run, and Watson (Clemson) plays against Ohio State.

PS Mahome's Texas Tech went 5-7, & wasn't bowl eligible.

Too early to tell right now. There's still free agency and bowl games and the combine. It's possible SF somehow lands a FA QB they're happy with. I believe EJ Manuel and Geno Smith are both hitting FA.

Also a possibility, albeit an extremely rare one:

  • RG3 starts for us for the last 4 games and throws for 1600 yards, 16 TDs and 0 INTs over that span.
  • San Francisco offers us their first and second round picks for him and we take the deal. RG3 goes on to be extremely terrible for the 9ers.
  • Philadelphia loses every game for the rest of the season and nets us something like the 6th overall pick.
  • We go into the NFL Draft with picks #1, #2, #6, #33, #48, #65
  • We sign Luke Joeckel as RT and Chance Warmack as RG.
  • We take Myles Garrett, Jonathan Allen, Mitch Trubisky, Adoree Jackson, Budda Baker, and Tyler Orlosky
  • In the 4-3, we'd havei Garrett and Nassib as true DE's, Allen as a 3-tech and Shelton at the 1-tech. Collins ROLB, Orchard LOLB, Kirksey MLB
  • In the 3-4, we'd have Garrett and Allen as DE's and Shelton at NT, with Kirksey and Davis at ILB.
  • We now have a new QB, RG, RT, and C on offense, and a new FS, CB2, DE, and other DL on defense.
  • We also still have 100 picks in the next 4 rounds.

A guy can hope, right?

Saw a very new mock draft (about an hour old) that has us taking Mitch #1, and then Cam Robinson, OT from Bama, with the Eagles' pick. Can't say I'd hate that. We'd need a lot of help from the football gods for that to happen, but talk about filling some major needs...

To build on that, don't be surprised to see the Browns trade back into the first round with (you guessed it!) the New England Patriots. The Patriots are notorious for trading back and acquiring picks, and would there really be THAT much difference from pick 33 to pick 30? So WHY would we want to do that? Well, I could see us doing that if the draft's top OG is available. His name is Dan Feeney I believe, and he plays for Indiana. He's a tough bastard, and that would fill another need. Yeah, we need safety, and yeah we need a corner...but we REALLY need another guard too.

But we really really need a center better than Camshaft more. :) Elflin (Ohio State) can play either. He moved from guard to center this year. MHO- problem solved. Assuming Reiter comes back and isn't the answer either.

With the all the unknowns regarding the OL, the more versatility we have the better.

You never know when we'll have to resort to plan "B"...or "C".

I'd be ecstatic if we got our QB and the two best lineman in the draft.

Look at the Titans.

The last 4 years their first round has been

OL

OL

QB

OL

They were 2-14 two seasons in a row, and all of a sudden their franchise guy is protected, their running game is 2nd in the league, and they are firmly in the playoff hunt in December.

We should take a page out of their book.

That's a pretty fair point, and it's similar to what the Cowboys have done. The Titans also invested heavily in the RB position, and it's paid dividends. Investing in the RB position is somewhat controversial, and many people are of the thinking that "you can get a decent RB anywhere." There might be some truth to that, but elite RB's aren't found every day either.

There's going to be a lot of pressure on this upcoming draft and free agency. Time to knock it out of the park.

Hold off for Guice from LSU in 2018, the "next" Elliot runs like a clone.

Are we sure by that time he won't be the 'next Fournette'? After all, Elliott was the first great, generation, can't miss running back since a guy named Todd Gurley was drafted by the then-St Louis Rams way back in 2015.

The latter is probably a bit more athletic; maybe a better blocker.

That's the key... Zeke is so much more than "a runner"...

Here's a little Trubski porn guaranteed to produce wood for his faithful...

Who Is Mitch Trubisky?

It’s the question evaluators across the league are scrambling to answer as the first-year UNC starter has established himself as the best draft-eligible quarterback in college football

I read that this morning, good article. I'd take either one of them at this point, though I'm still more in love with Kizer's potential than anything. Just no Watson, please.

As I've said, I thought he looked pretty good the only time I saw him during the only year he was able to start in the ACC. But, if we're talking about him for the 1st overall pick, it wasn't enough to change my football wood factor from balsa to sequoia.

There's a large piece of me that hopes Mitch grades out really well, and we select him #1. I would like to have our prospect locked up, and ready to go. I just don't know if we can pass on a blue chip pass rusher. It's such a mind screw. Watching us get stonewalled by a decimated Charger OL....it was just awful. We had NOBODY that could make a big play on the QB on so many 3rd and longs. Nobody that could push their guy out of the way and slam Rivers. God we need that. It's just so tough when you haven't had a QB in so many years.

I think the draft is deep in edge rushers. Take the qb, if he's your guy.

You find the guys you want to add to your team, and take em when

you think they can still be there. Like the 246 offensive tackle. If he was

there in the fourth round... he's a guard probably, but what a guard.

SF will lose to Seattle while the Browns will beat the non-starters in Pitt. SF takes Trubisky and the Browns take Garrett or Allen.
