I never said only old people get news from social media.

I said the elderly are most susceptible to fake news. This board is a great example. They can get less of their news from social media but if they have a complete inability to recognize propaganda and illegitimate sites....well... You get Q anon and thinking Trump is still president

Keep up

Apparently by not growing up with the internet they think anything they see on it (that agrees with their already held beliefs) must be true. These are the people most susceptible to fake news.

Blah blah blah. You're wrong woodpecker. It made a point about senior citizens being fooled by social media which is where you people get more of your news. If you weren't obsessed by this generational horse shit you might be able to see clearly. But…

In actuality had you been brighter you could have argued that seniors are reliant on other forms of media for their news which are no less a bunch of rubbish than social media. For instance the nightly news  Cable news outlets and 9 out of 10 major newspapers.

Whether it's true or not it would appear to an observer that you get your news by reading the posts of people you don't like and just taking the opposite position.

Again, no. You are looking at two different things and equating them. They aren't the same thing. You're just loudly yelling you're right and hoping that if you drown out everything else you might actually be right. It doesn't work like that.

And the idea that I'm the one obsessed by it with the group we have here posting things about the "millennials" a bunch... alright.

If you think that is how I decide what my views are then you're a fool. Especially considering I'm a hell of a lot more consistent than many of our posters on here. That group hates Obama doing a thing, loves with Trump does a thing, and now hates it again if it's Biden. It is all incredibly transparent. Their only value is to follow what the team wants them to.

But let's try to move past your completely irrelevant comments up top designed to pull this whole back and forth off topic so you can claim so sort of victory. Let's focus on what I originally posted and what you disagreed with...

Again, you aren't following what is going on here. I know this is a typical steve tactic when I'm trying to say the sky is blue and you're off in the corner yelling about the grass being orange. Making me have to circle back around to address the thing I never said in the first place.

Who gets the most news from social media and who is most easily fooled by fake news / social media are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS

Abstract

So-called “fake news” has renewed concerns about the prevalence and effects of misinformation in political campaigns. Given the potential for widespread dissemination of this material, we examine the individual-level characteristics associated with sharing false articles during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign. To do so, we uniquely link an original survey with respondents’ sharing activity as recorded in Facebook profile data. First and foremost, we find that sharing this content was a relatively rare activity. Conservatives were more likely to share articles from fake news domains, which in 2016 were largely pro-Trump in orientation, than liberals or moderates. We also find a strong age effect, which persists after controlling for partisanship and ideology: On average, users over 65 shared nearly seven times as many articles from fake news domains as the youngest age group.

Two theories for these results: General lack of internet literacy in the older generation (which I've mentioned many times) or the overall cognitive decline that comes with age.

Quote

Given the general lack of attention paid to the oldest generations in the study of political behavior thus far, more research is needed to better understand and contextualize the interaction of age and online political content. Two potential explanations warrant further investigation. First, following research in sociology and media studies, it is possible that an entire cohort of Americans, now in their 60s and beyond, lacks the level of digital media literacy necessary to reliably determine the trustworthiness of news encountered online (13, 14). There is a well-established research literature on media literacy and its importance for navigating new media technologies (15). Building on existing work (16, 17), researchers should further develop competency-based measures of digital media literacy that encompass the kinds of skills needed to identify and avoid dubious content designed to maximize engagement. Research on age and digital media literacy often focuses on youth skills acquisition and the divide between “digital natives” and “digital immigrants” (18), but our results suggest renewed focus on the oldest age cohorts.

Within this cohort, lower levels of digital literacy could be compounded by the tendency to use social endorsements as credibility cues (19). If true, this would imply a growing impact as more Americans from older age groups join online social communities. A second possibility, drawn from cognitive and social psychology, suggests a general effect of aging on memory. Under this account, memory deteriorates with age in a way that particularly undermines resistance to “illusions of truth” and other effects related to belief persistence and the availability heuristic, especially in relation to source cues (2022). The severity of these effects would theoretically increase with the complexity of the information environment and the prevalence of misinformation.

Just bitch, bitch, bitch.

I'm starting to think you just don't know how to read. Or maybe you recognize the words, but what's left of your brain shuts them out because they contradict your fabricated reality.

lie. You've never thought. You only feel. Your belief system is nothing. Your ego is based on what you do NOT belive, and bitching at others for what they do belive. You just peck. Peck and bitch. Like this post, you prove me absolutely accurate.

Just analytical. You are too boring to get emotional about. You've been afraid to stand up for any issue, you don't know much of anything, you just attack and ridicule other's beliefs. You're kind of an empty feather duster, woodpecker.  With a beak.

Need too dig around on this Site, lots of interesting things and hidden Easter Eggs.

Top line - "Save the Bees, Save our natural Food Supply..." I.L. note #13790 "oh and don't forget to set the 90 day timer..." I.L. note #13848

That is the countdown Timer displayed above - don't know for what.

Interestingly, the Timer is slightly different on each page (value).

Oh, the text in the previous post - page 4 (NEWS), scroll down to the White area and highlight it (click left Mouse Button, hold and go down).

I have mentioned and linked a few of these Books many times - written in the late 1800's by Ingersoll Lockwood.

The older Books can be found on the Internet (I've linked them before).

Looks like I'll need to look into a few more of these as well.

Again that's the exact proper comparison. It's just that you happened to be obsessed with your stupid little generation. I could give a fuck about Boomer's. I also don't think somebody that's 25 would necessarily have much in common was somebody whose 40.  I probably share some things with other boomers but not necessarily and that's only because of the history.

And a seniors don't get their news from social media that who cares how many of them share and what they share? Just anecdotally I see a lot more left wing bullshit shared on Facebook than right wing.

But I realize you are bitter because the huge majority of people on this board are conservative and probably mostly older than you.Tough shit.

And it seems to me you're the one who regularly wishes death upon the seniors so that BLM antifa and the socialists can make the United States a 3rd world shit hole again.  I have no doubt you will get your way but I also have no doubt that you will be pissed off about kids when you are in your sixties.

Who knows? By then your grandchildren will be on a cure of end trying to get into El Salvador Mexico or Uganda illegally..

So you've just chosen to not follow any of this and respond with more typical Steve nonsense.

Alright, no problem. We can end it here.
